Biography

With a voice that soars directly from the heart, Tania G is an accomplished singer and songwriter who never fails to captivate and uplift audiences across airwaves, stage and screen. Her musical style is a heartfelt reflection of her inner world, seamlessly blending R’n’B, pop and contemporary gospel sounds.

With over two decades of experience in the music industry, Tania G has graced some of Australia's most prestigious stages, including the Sydney Opera House, Hammer Hall, Rod Laver Arena and Federation Square – to name a few.

Tania G has showcased her talent on some of Australia’s most beloved shows, such as Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, In Melbourne Tonight (IMT), Channel 9’s Carols by Candlelight and even on screen at the Logies with the Melbourne Gospel Choir (MGC).

Tania independently released her applauded first studio album What Really Matters in 2003, followed by her sophomore album Lay it All Down in 2006. Two of her singles – ‘Lay It all Down’ and ‘I Still Believe’ – went on to chart in the Top 20 most played songs on contemporary Christian radio in Australia.

From an early age, Tania understood that music could be a way to impart truth, love and beauty in a world that desperately needs it. Her music and artistry has evolved throughout her various stages of life as she continues to be a stalwart in the Australian music scene.

Born into a musical family, Tania was enveloped by sound from a young age. Her mother was a professional jazz/pop singer in Sri Lanka and her father sang in a vocal group alongside his fulltime job.

When the family migrated to Australia, their love of music followed. Tania lovingly recalls singing hymns in the church choir and listening to her parents practice with their band in the garage.

As a young girl she would intently watch formidable music divas – like Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin and Cece Winans – and feel a stirring inside her soul. These technical singers demonstrated how to fearlessly power through ballads, accessing the depth of human emotion.

In her mid teens, she began to develop her sound and formed a singing group called Sister Sister, a trio that explored the rich sounds of R’n’B and emulating acts like En Vogue and TLC. From there, Tania began to study at renowned vocal school David Jaanz and forge her professional career.

In harmony with finding her feet as an artist, Tania was connecting with her faith and discovering her niche in contemporary gospel and christian music. She released her first EP in 2000, followed by her debut album What Really Matters in 2003.

After a musical trip to Nashville, Tania found her stride with the release of her second album Lay it All Down in 2006. The album was well received as she played gigs across churches and festivals.

In 2009 and 2010 respectively she released two more singles ‘This Is My Life’ and ‘The Other Side’. As Tania matured into adult life, and started her family, she continued to work in the industry as a singer and in-demand vocal teacher.  In 2015 Tania collaborated with friends and musicians David Tweedie and Andrew Naylor on an acoustic video project called Live at The Base, interweaving her original songs with hymns.

After a break from releasing original music, Tania courageously returned to the scene in 2019 and 2020 with the release of singles ‘Easy on Me’ and ‘Brave’.

With no signs of slowing down, she continues to write music and constantly evolve as a human and an artist. Through life’s trials and tribulations she has turned to singing and songwriting as a form of self-expression and as a tool to make others feel inspired and seen – believing in music’s ability to unite us in our humanity.
